Schuylerville's Fall Calendar Moves to Ferry Street After the Historic Houses Close

The Schuyler House, the Saratoga Monument and the Neilson House have closed for the 2026 season. October 17 was their last day, according to Saratoga National Historical Park's hours page. They are the biggest public buildings in and around the village, and their doors will stay shut until next season.

Village life keeps going after that. From late October through mid-December, most of Schuylerville's public events sit within a few addresses on Ferry Street, between the Hudson and the canal. The groups that run Hudson Crossing Park and Fort Hardy Park hold the programs. The national park still contributes Thursday evening lectures and a lot of open ground, but the buildings are dark.

The Houses Are Closed, but the Grounds Stay Open

The park lists the grounds of all three historic buildings as open from sunrise to sunset. Several other sites near the village never close for the season at all.

  • Schuyler House, Saratoga Monument, Neilson House. Buildings closed for the season. Grounds open sunrise to sunset.
  • Victory Woods. Open daily, sunrise to sunset. The park notes that the walking path is not shoveled in winter.
  • Surrender Site. Open daily, sunrise to sunset.
  • Battlefield grounds. Open daily, sunrise to sunset. The Wilkinson Trail is the only marked trail, a 4 1/4-mile loop for pedestrians only.

The Battlefield Tour Road changes in two steps. On November 1 its daily hours shorten to 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. On November 30 it closes to cars. After that it stays open to walkers and cyclists from sunrise to sunset, using the marked Multi-Use Lane. The park's hours have been updated several times this month, so check the hours page the morning you go.

The park's indoor programs move to evenings. Its Fall Lecture Series fills five Thursday evenings at the Visitor Center: October 22 and 29, and November 5, 12 and 19, each at 6:30 p.m. The park says reservations are required. After that, the winter schedule runs from December 1 to February 28. The Visitor Center will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and closed Monday through Thursday. It is also closed on November 26 and December 25. The Thursday lectures end just before Thursdays become a closed day.

Ferry Street Has Most of the Calendar

Once the federal sites go quiet, most of the season's events happen on one short street by the water.

3 Ferry Street is Fort Hardy Park, where Starlight in the Park takes place on Saturday, December 12, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friends of Fort Hardy Park lists it as a free family event with a campfire and says more details are coming.

33 Ferry Street hosts the same group's foraged holiday-centerpiece workshop on Saturday, November 14, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It costs $5 per person, registration is required, and it is capped at 15 people.

28 Ferry Street is the Champlain Canal Region Gateway Visitors Center. Its listed schedule is Thursday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., through October 31. Winter hours have not been announced.

1 Ferry Street is the one dark address on the strip. The Basin Grill did not reopen for 2026. NEWS10 reported in May that owners Chip and Wendy Lawrence were focusing on the marina, campgrounds and cabins at Schuyler Yacht Basin.

Hudson Crossing Park is on the same waterfront. It is open every day from dawn to dusk, all year, so it doesn't have an off-season to plan around. It hosts two programs in the last week of October.

Twilight On the Trails is on Monday, October 26, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The park schedules it each month on or near the full moon. The walk looks for crepuscular animals, such as deer, foxes, raccoons, rabbits and bats, that are most active at dawn and dusk.

The Jack O'Lantern Trail Walk follows on Friday, October 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. Pumpkin carving and broom-making start at 4. The pumpkins are lit along the Sensory Trail from 5 to 7.

Registration Limits Are the Main Constraint

Nearly every program on this calendar asks you to sign up first, and the riverfront ones are small. The two Ferry Street groups run programs with registration and a set number of spots. Twilight On the Trails takes 20 people per group. The centerpiece workshop takes 15. Both require you to sign up ahead of time.

For a household with a free weeknight, the late-fall calendar comes down to a few choices. The Thursday lectures require a reservation with the park. The Monday twilight walk needs registration this week. The mid-November workshop has the fewest spots on the list. Hudson Crossing Park's trails need no planning, since they are open dawn to dusk every day. If you want one of the capped programs, register as soon as you decide, because 15 or 20 spots don't last long in a village this size.

Up the Hill on Green Street and Broad Street

Away from the water, the main new opening this year is on Green Street. The Saratogian reported that The Art Club, Virginia Fretto's art-supply shop at 111 Green Street, soft-opened in early June and held its grand opening on August 8. The same article lists its hours as Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It also describes a Creative Cafe where customers can try projects and supplies before buying. Those hours were reported in August, so call the shop before a special trip.

On Broad Street, the former Sweet Lou's space at 161 Broad Street received a change-of-use approval for a proposed Mexican restaurant, according to the village board's June 8 minutes. For now it is a proposal on paper, not a place to book a table.

The Schuylerville Public Library runs a monthly rhythm for families with young children. Counting Down to Kindergarten meets on Tuesday, November 3, and Tuesday, December 1, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. World Wanderers Storytime meets on Wednesday, November 4, and Wednesday, December 2, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Both are held in the Picture Book Corner, and the dates are posted on the library's event calendar.

Five Dates When the Schedule Changes

Hours and access change on these five dates.

  1. October 31. The Gateway Visitors Center at 28 Ferry Street reaches the end of its listed Thursday-through-Sunday schedule. Winter hours are still to be announced.
  2. November 1. The Battlefield Tour Road moves to 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
  3. November 26. The park Visitor Center is closed for Thanksgiving.
  4. November 30. The Tour Road closes to cars and stays open to walkers and cyclists from sunrise to sunset.
  5. December 1. The Visitor Center starts its winter schedule, open Friday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed Monday through Thursday through February 28.

On December 12, Starlight in the Park lights a campfire at 3 Ferry Street. It is the last event on the riverfront calendar this year.
